The New 612 Creative

In 2004, 612 Creative refurbished a magnificent Victorian era warehouse at 612 Columbia Street in the heart of New Westminster, British Colombia. Some of what makes this historic building so quaint and rustic are the open fir beams, exposed brick walls and antique freight elevator. The blending of old and new inspires a unique synergy that reflects in the passionately driven people of 612 Creative.

New Westminster has evolved through a rich history and recently underwent a revitalization of the downtown core. 612 Creative takes pride in being a part of this positive transformation. In 1859, New Westminster was selected as the first capital of the new colony of British Columbia and officially named by Queen Victoria after her favourite part of London. From this naming by the Queen, New Westminster gained its nickname “The Royal City,” and became the first city in Western Canada.

In the early days, lumber and fishing industries established New Westminster’s economy. Heavy industry and manufacturing were booming in the early 1900’s and retail was thriving from the mid 1950’s through the 70’s. The health care, manufacturing and educational service sectors have also played a large role in shaping the city. Today New Westminster is evolving into a new arts and cultural hub in the lower mainland, becoming an exciting place to be.
